Cytogenetic aberrations remain a cornerstone of AML classification, prognostication, and treatment allocation 1 , 2 . Trisomy 8 (+8) is a common numerical cytogenetic aberration found in approximately 10–15% of AML cases, either as the sole cytogenetic abnormality, in combination with other recurrent aberrations, or as part of a complex karyotype 2 , 3 . Currently, +8 without favorable or adverse defining abnormalities is categorized as intermediate-risk according to European LeukemiaNet 2022 risk classification (ELN2022) 1 , despite conflicting results regarding the prognostic impact 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 .
