This study analyzes Artificial Intelligence (AI) representations on magazine covers using framing and conceptual metaphor theories to understand how magazines portray AI. Framing theory highlights how media emphasize specific AI aspects, while metaphor theory shows how metaphors explain AI and make it relatable. Analyzing 130 covers from various genres revealed a range of representations, from optimistic progress to dystopian concerns. Science and tech magazines depicted AI positively, focusing on innovation, while news and business covers raised issues of control and privacy. Metaphors like ‘AI as a saviour’ evoke emotional responses, and AI-generated covers show collaboration with human intelligence. Magazines reflect ambivalence and anxieties about AI, underscoring the need for informed discourse and responsible AI development.
