The somatosensory cortex receives information from the thalamus, primarily via the ventral posterolateral (VPL) and ventral posteromedial (VPM) nuclei, which relay sensory information like touch, pain, temperature, and proprioception. Somatosensory system is consisted of the important divisions : 1- Pain and temperature sensations (Lateral spinothalamic tract), 2- Crude touch and firm pressure (Anterior spinothalamic tract)and 3- Fine touch and proprioception sensations (Fasciculus gracilis and cuneatus). Somatosensory board is located in post central gyrus (anterior parietal cortex). We have nine somatosensory types. Pain sensation has important role in coloring or borrowing memory types. Central field in somatosensory board receives projections from hands, lips and feet, while lateral field receives projections from both sides of the body. Central somatosensory concentrations depends on left amygdala and left pulvinar. While lateral concentration depends on right amygdala and right pulvinar, these crossover are happening by Interthalamic adhesion.
