The rapid advancement of automation technology has revolutionised logistics, with intelligent robotic sorting systems emerging as critical tools for efficiency and precision. This study explores a monocular vision-based motion ranging and localisation method for mobile sorting robots to autonomously identify, localise, grasp, and sort cylindrical workpieces. The system integrates an industrial camera mounted on a robotic manipulator, enabling dynamic image acquisition within the world coordinate system. The system achieves accurate object localisation and depth estimation through motion stereo ranging techniques by employing the OpenCV library for image processing. Experimental consequences reveal median localisation mistakes of less than 4%, validating the device’s reliability and fee-effectiveness in sensible applications. This research highlights the potential for upgrading existing sorting systems with affordable monocular solutions, contributing to the broader adoption of intelligent logistics technologies.
