Relationship stability is an important determinant of prison recidivism. Yet, little is known about men’s dating attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors in reentry. A transcendental phenomenology approach was used to examine the dating experiences of 18 men during reentry in the current study. Five themes emerged from the research, including (a) past romantic relationships, (b) prison experiences, (c) substance use, (d) multiple facets of trust, and (e) safe sex and pornography consumption. Findings may inform the development of culturally responsive relationship education programs and clinical practices that address relational needs in individual and couples-based psychotherapy.
