ChatGPT has demonstrated potential in health and physical education (HPE) settings, particularly as a thought partner. In order to maximize its potential, however, strategies must be embedded into intentional and innovative ChatGPT tasks. Moreover, these tasks must align with evidence-based effective practices in education. This article provides specific and tangible practices that innovatively promote higher order thinking while engaging with ChatGPT as a thought partner in HPE settings. A brief history of ChatGPT is reviewed, along with its current capabilities and uses. Overarching uses and cautions for ChatGPT are also presented, followed by innovative strategies and tasks that can be implemented in HPE classrooms. While post-secondary HPE settings are the primary focus, many of the strategies and tasks presented are also applicable across disciplines in higher education and K-12 settings.
