Does ischemic mitral regurgitation affect left ventricular mechanics in patients with acute inferoposterior myocardial infarction?
In patients with acute inferoposterior MI, the presence of ischemic mitral regurgitation is associated with impaired radial and circumferential left ventricular deformation, even when LVEF and longitudinal strain are similar.
Valuckienė et al. (2016) conducted an observational in Acute inferoposterior myocardial infarction and ischemic mitral regurgitation (n=104). Ischemic mitral regurgitation (grade ≥2) vs. No significant MR (grade 0-I) and healthy subjects was evaluated on Left ventricular mechanics (ejection fraction, longitudinal, circumferential, and radial myocardial deformation parameters). Ischemic mitral regurgitation in acute inferoposterior MI is associated with significantly worse radial and circumferential left ventricular deformation parameters compared to no significant MR.
