Evaluates provider experiences in a produce prescription program, indicating feasibility and areas for improvement.
We evaluated the experiences of clinicians involved in implementing a 12-month produce prescription (PRx) program at two medical centers. The program provided 542 military veterans with $100 per month to purchase fresh produce, as well as supportive nutrition education. Using the PRISM RE-AIM framework, we conducted focus groups with 18 clinicians, using rapid qualitative data analysis to evaluate clinicians’ insights. Clinicians found implementation feasible and acceptable. However, inconsistent training and lack of a clear post-program transition plan were points of concern. Overall implementation of PRx was successful, with staff finding the program relatively easy to integrate into their existing workloads.
