Qualitative interview study explores reflection practices and challenges faced by teachers in Catholic schools, indicating potential for improvement.
Everything is done by the religious with the best effort possible. Education transforms attitudes and so Catholic missionaries have braved remote rugged terrains and hostile atmospheres to make quality education accessible to all. Their goals are achieved by employing dedicated and inspiring staff. Reflective teachers ensure quality in education by localising education. Catholic educational institutions plan to get the teaching staff to reflect periodically. This is necessitated as most of the Indian teachers do not take time-out for proper reflection on their own. This study is a report of the interview conducted with ten headpersons of Catholic schools to present the opportunities to reflect, highlighting practices, challenges and perspectives of Catholic schools. The study reveals the opportunities that are deliberately created by the Catholic schools for teachers to self-reflect. But, teachers fail to reap the full benefit of these opportunities as the worthiness of self-reflection is not completely appreciated by all teachers.
