Evaluates polaron properties in chain lengths, suggesting implications for charge mobility.
In the thermodynamic equilibrium state at temperature T , the existence of a polaron depends on the thermal energy of the whole chain. This means that at the same intensity of electric field, the polaron dynamics depends on the chain length. The paper describes the characteristics of polaron motion common to different chains. By analogy with the mobility of the charge the mobility of the polaron μ P is calculated, and it is shown for small T that μ P ≈ μ P(T = 0) . The continuity at $$T = 0$$ makes it possible to estimate the effective mass of the polaron as the mass at zero temperature.
