EDITORIAL SYNOPSIS This paper presents results in the treatment of 105 patients suffering from Crohn's disease retrospectively analysed after 10 years, of whom 30 were treated with corticosteroids. The treatment was most useful in patients with extensive small bowel disease and those with recurrent disease after resection. Immediate improvement was seen in 22 out of the 30 patients, but the long- term results of treatment were only moderately encouraging: seven patients needed continued treatment; eight subsequently required operation; four died; and only three were able to give up the treatment altogether.
