In Brief Skeletal muscle comprises approximately 40% of total body mass and, as such, contributes to maintenance of human health. In this review, we discuss the current state of knowledge regarding the role of molecular clocks in skeletal muscle. In addition, we discuss a new function for exercise as a time-setting cue for muscle and other peripheral tissues. This review discusses the relationship between the molecular clock, skeletal muscle, and exercise.
