The initial human experience with the Kantrowitz CardioVAD demonstrates feasibility of implantation and significant hemodynamic and functional improvement in patients with end-stage cardiomyopathy.
Jeevanandam et al. (2002) studied End-stage cardiomyopathy (n=5). Kantrowitz CardioVAD (KCV) vs. Preoperative values was evaluated on Cardiac index at 1 month. Implantation of the Kantrowitz CardioVAD in 5 men with end-stage cardiomyopathy increased cardiac index from 1.7 to 2.6 L/min/m2 and improved NYHA class from IV to II at 1 month.
