SUMMARY Seventy‐eight cases of acute prostatitis and twenty‐three cases of prostatic abscess are described. Ætiology, clinical course, different methods of treatment and results are discussed. Acute infection of the prostate should be considered and treated as a serious illness in order to avoid recurrent attacks and chronic ill health. We are indebted to the consultant staff of St Peter's and St Paul's Hospitals, London, for permission to publish these cases and for their help and encouragement.
