A modification of Labeyrie's technique for processing star images degraded by atmospheric seeing is presented. The phase information is preserved in the deconvolution process by the addition of an off-axis coherent reference wave. As a result, the final image is the actual object intensity distribution rather than the autocorrelation of the object intensity. Subject headings:instruments - turbulence
