Research on environmental history in Latin America shows promise for global influence, suggesting new dialogues.
After a quarter of a century of enthusiastic development, research on Latin American environmental history stands strong but dispersed. It is well positioned to have a stronger influence over the broader conception of the region’s history through approaches such as the more-than-human; novel dialogues, such as those that characterize the environmental humanities; and deepening public engagement. It should also aim to become more global by integrating more fully into the broader environmental-history community and engaging in strategies such as comparative studies.
