The June issue of the Journal contained a Memorandum from the ICRP (pages 113-23) reporting on progress towards new recommendations. It began with a historical background in which there were descriptions of the early reports of the radiation damage to the hands and fingers of those working with the newly-discovered x-rays. It then traced the development of protection against radiation hazards, continuing with the various sets of recommendations by the ICRP between 1950 and 1990. After considering the development of the next recommendations, it concluded with `other issues'.
