This study describes information sources used and preferred by urban physicians, with particular emphasis on their use of medical and health sciences libraries and end-user searching. To gather data, a mail survey of 300 Franklin County, Ohio, physicians was conducted. Major variables studied included reasons for library use, barriers to accessing information, and demographic information. Respondents reported satisfaction with the methods they are using to meet professional information needs. They are making good use of medical and health sciences libraries. These physicians value traditional library services, such as document delivery, reference assistance, and literature searches. They also reported very strong interest in access to electronic resources and search training.
