Is the KDR rs1870377 genotype associated with clopidogrel resistance in CVD patients of Iraqi Arabic origin undergoing elective PCI?
The KDR rs1870377 genotype may serve as a potential genetic biomarker for predicting clopidogrel resistance in patients undergoing elective PCI.
May support KDR rs1870377 as biomarker for clopidogrel resistance; leaves open prospective validation before clinical use.
BACKGROUND: genotype with clopidogrel resistance (CR) in CVD patients, of Iraqi Arabic origin, hospitalized for elective PCI. MATERIALS AND METHODS: was genotyped for all patients using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism technique and confirmed by DNA Sänger sequencing through applying Biosystems Model (ABI3730x1). RESULTS: SNP may have an impact on the serum levels of VEGFR2 and low density lipoprotein. CONCLUSIONS: SNP is a potential genetic biomarker of CR among CVD patients of Iraqi Arabic origin. Further clinical studies, with larger sample, are required to confirm the findings of this study.

Al‐Awaida et al. (2021) conducted a case-control in Coronary Artery Disease requiring Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (n=324). KDR rs1870377 A allele (AA + TA genotypes) vs. KDR rs1870377 T/T genotype was evaluated on Clopidogrel resistance (CR) (OR 2.27, 95% CI 1.39-3.68, p=0.001). The KDR rs1870377 A allele was significantly associated with an increased likelihood of clopidogrel resistance compared to the wild-type T/T genotype (OR 2.27).
