The advancement of carbon nanotube (CNT) polymer composites has significantly revolutionized material science by offering exceptional mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties. However, the practical application of these composites is often hindered by the poor dispersion and compatibility of CNTs within polymer matrices. This paper explores advanced functionalization techniques to address these challenges, aiming to achieve superior dispersion and compatibility. Through a comprehensive review of chemical, physical, and hybrid functionalization methods, this study evaluates their effectiveness in enhancing CNT-polymer composite properties. Additionally, key characterization techniques, including spectroscopic and microscopy methods, are utilized to assess the quality of dispersion, interfacial bonding, and the presence of functional groups. Detailed case studies showcase the successful application of these advanced functionalization techniques, with significant improvements in mechanical properties such as tensile strength, modulus, and fracture toughness, resulting in composites with enhanced performance. This research advances the understanding of functionalization strategies and provides a robust framework for future studies and industrial applications, paving the way for the commercialization of high-performance CNT-polymer composites.
