Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) exemplifies a Community-Based Leisure Approach (CBLA) by integrating local communities into sustainable cultural leisure activity. This note explores SCV’s model, highlighting its role in cultural preservation, economic empowerment, and community-led leisure. Using an autoethnographic approach and Actor-Network Theory (ANT), the study examines SCV’s synergies with the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF), the balance between authenticity and commodification, and its economic and social impacts. While SCV fosters cultural sustainability and empowerment, challenges such as infrastructure gaps and commercialization risks persist. SCV’s approach offers a model that emphasizes community agency and cultural resilience in the Global South.
