This study explored Counselor-in-Training (CIT) perceptions of their academic and clinical preparation during the COVID-19 pandemic at a CACREP-accredited program in rural Appalachia. Using Consensual Qualitative Research (CQR), nine CITs participated in semi-structured interviews describing their experiences navigating coursework and practicum amid the sudden shift to virtual learning. Analysis revealed three domains: (1) Experiences of Online-Hybrid Classes, including both positive and negative aspects; (2) Internship and Practicum Training; and (3) Strategies for Managing Challenges. Findings underscore the need for enhanced telehealth training, high-quality supervision, and robust support systems to prepare CITs for future disruptions and rural clinical practice.
