Theory explains artistic perfection through structural coherence and material construction in visual art.
Version 3 (2026) This third edition further develops New Perfection as a comprehensive theory of artistic perfection grounded in structural coherence across multiple scales of visual organisation. Building upon the theoretical restructuring introduced in Version 2, the present edition expands the concept of coherence beyond compositional organisation to include the material construction of the painted surface, introducing the principle of the Micro-Architectural Surface as an integral component of artistic perfection. The theory now demonstrates how coherence operates simultaneously at the macro-architectural level of composition, the meso-architectural level of chromatic and spatial organisation, and the micro-architectural level of individual brush application. The edition also refines the relationship between New Perfection, Systemic Abstraction, and Epistemic Painting, clarifying their respective theoretical and methodological roles within the broader research programme. Historical foundations have been further strengthened, key concepts have been expanded and more precisely defined, and the theory has been integrated more closely with the interdisciplinary frameworks developed through The Architecture of Humanity. These revisions reflect the continued maturation of the research programme and its progression toward a comprehensive theory of visual organisation, artistic perfection, and knowledge production through painting.
