Dramatic narrative explores time, identity, and reality as the Pilgrim-3 crew seeks to return home.
The second part of the "Apeiron" dilogy chronicles the return of the Pilgrim-3 crew after their catastrophic exit beyond the multiverse. Having survived in the Apeiron — a realm devoid of familiar space and time — they perform a coherent breakthrough and emerge in an entirely different universe, separated from their home by eighteen thousand steps along an extra dimension. Worse still, they have lost nearly 850 years — their own time stands still, while the universe they knew has moved on. A distress signal will reach U0 only in 847 years, long after the crew is gone. The crew decides to journey home through a chain of universes, gradually bringing fundamental constants closer to their native values. This voyage will take two thousand years and span five generations. The story reveals how people change: psychologist Tumanov dies of inexplicable calmness, materials scientist Orlova gives birth to a daughter named Apeirona, who exhibits unusual neural patterns. Android-1 remains the eternal witness. The ending is open-ended: 847 years after the first signal was sent, the Central Archive registers a mysterious transmission — "We are home" — accompanied by a child's laughter. But the recording’s authenticity is questioned. The second part raises questions about time, memory, identity, and what it means to return when home no longer exists. It is not a scientific treatise but a fictional exploration of the theoretical frameworks of IDM and 7FM, inviting the reader into a deeper reflection.
