Examines spatial coherence of ionospheric currents, suggesting potential diagnostic use for geomagnetic storms.
Reproducibility package (manuscript, analysis code, and derived data products) for a method that decomposes the spatial coherence of geomagnetic perturbations by altitude, combining SuperMAG ground magnetometer data with CODE Global Ionosphere Maps of GPS total electron content. A two-layer Chapman model partitions TEC into F-region (300 km) and E-region (120 km) components; Moran's I computed on each modeled layer yields three spatial-coherence measures (I_gnd, I_120, I_300) that carry largely independent information across eight geomagnetic events (2000-2015). The altitude coherence switch Delta = I_120 - I_300 is presented as a candidate, sector-dependent storm-phase diagnostic rather than a universal one. A persistent Local Indicator of Spatial Association anomaly near Kangerlussuaq, Greenland is cross-validated with Swarm field-aligned currents, Van Allen Probes plasma composition, Swarm Langmuir probe density, and Swarm auroral oval boundaries. Raw SuperMAG data are not redistributed here (per SuperMAG data policy); the repository ships the derived per-epoch Moran's I products plus instructions to obtain the raw inputs.
