Smart Tourism Destinations (STDs) use technology to enhance tourism. This study addresses the impact of technological risks and tourist preferences on technology use, willingness to pay, and online recommendations in STDs. It introduces a framework based on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), exploring factors like risks, usefulness, ease of use, perceived enjoyment, and innovation. The quantitative study involving 504 tourists in Cáceres’ STD using a tourism app, reveals relationships between privacy, innovation, technology use, online recommendations, and willingness to pay. These findings highlight technology’s transformative potential in STDs, with practical implications for destination management to facilitate technology adoption for tourists.
