This randomized trial finds actionable strategies to enhance learning in emergency medicine clerkships, suggesting improvements in education.
<ns5:p>The emergency medicine (EM) clerkship can be a uniquely challenging clinical learning environment for students as they transition from the pre-clinical to the clinical phase of their undergraduate medical education. Despite the complexity of this transition, limited guidance exists for educators on how to best support medical students stepping into the emergency department learning environment for the very first time. Drawing on prior research from our study team and existing literature, we identify actionable tips for EM clerkship leadership and faculty. We provide the readership with 11 practical tips. These tips span pre-clinical preparation, clerkship structure, and ED-specific clinical skills to support learners. These tips aim to improve both medical student education and the medical student experience while on their EM medicine clerkship.</ns5:p>
