This article presents a systematic review of the existing research areas in financial geography, identifying key themes and highlighting potential directions for future exploration. By synthesising the current body of knowledge, this review seeks to contribute to the ongoing discourse in financial geography and inspire new lines of inquiry that address the evolving landscape of global finance. This review also employs the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) 2020 protocol, analysing relevant articles from Scopus and Web of Science databases. The research shows that financial geography spans various domains, including financial centres, financialisation, financial technology (FinTech) and financial crises. Moreover, the findings reveal a significant rise in publications post-2007–2009 financial crisis, highlighting the persistent relevance of geographical factors in finance. The review also underscores the growing methodological triangulation in the field, with an increasing use of quantitative methods.
