Experimental measurements reveal solute descriptors for pesticides, indicating effective solubility prediction.
Experimental mole fraction solubilities are reported for diuron and monuron dissolved in 2-methyl-1-butanol, propyl acetate, pentyl acetate, hexyl acetate, octyl acetate, isopropyl acetate, isobutyl acetate, tert-butyl acetate, methyl butyrate, 2-propoxyethanol, dimethyl adipate, diethyl adipate, dibutyl adipate, ethyl lactate, butyl lactate and dimethyl sulphoxide at 298.15 K. Results of our experimental measurements, combined with published mole fraction solubility data retrieved from the chemical literature, were used to calculate experiment-based Abraham model solute descriptors for both diuron and monuron. Also reported in the paper are experiment-based solute descriptors for both imazapyr and 3,5-dimethylbenzoic acid calculated from published solubility data. The calculated solute descriptors, when inserted into the respective Abraham model correlation, provided a reasonably accurate mathematical description of the observed solubility behaviour, with deviations between the measured and back-calculated values being on the order of ±0.17 log units (or less).
