Evaluates ERP system impact on precision hole-grinding in SMEs, suggesting managerial importance for process improvement.
This study examines the selection and implementation of an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system to improve the precision hole-grinding process in a small and medium-sized mechanical manufacturing enterprise. By integrating the DMAIC methodology with the PF-MEREC-MARCOS multi-criteria decision-making approach, the study develops a structured framework for identifying operational problems, evaluating ERP alternatives, and supporting technology selection under resource constraints. Empirical results from the case study show that ERP implementation reduced human-dependent operations, improved information transparency, supported more accurate machine-setting decisions, and contributed to reducing process errors and repair activities. The findings indicate that ERP adoption in manufacturing SMEs should be understood not only as a technical improvement but also as a managerial decision that supports process standardization and data-driven control. This study contributes to engineering and technology management by demonstrating how DMAIC and multi-criteria decision-support tools can be used to guide ERP selection and implementation in resource-constrained manufacturing SMEs.
