The use and processing of the FM/CW signal for radar and acoustic sounder systems are examined. This signal--along with real-time digital processing via minicomputers--is currently being used by several groups for HF over-the-horizon radars. A comparative analysis of the different processing techniques for general radar applications has yet to be undertaken. This note therefore attempts to promulgate details of these techniques so that they may find use in other systems. An example involving an HF backscatter radar is used to permit the reader to see how the technique are applied to an actual problem.
