Summary Actinomycin D delays the appearance of circulating antibody to Bentonite-bovine γ-globulin (BGG). Actinomycin D converts the tolerogenic property of soluble BGG to an immunogenic stimulus. This adjuvant effect of actinomycin is not seen with 6-mercaptopurine, 5-fluorouracil, nitrogen mustard or cyclophosphamide. The ability of actinomycin to inhibit the tolerance produced by soluble BGG is considered a) as a possible result of inhibition of a repressor of antibody production, b) as a possible result of an alteration in antigen processing.
