Research Article reports a novel approach to display enzymes on cell surfaces using cholesterol analogues, suggesting new methods for biocatalysis.
In Research Article e2267541, Changzhu Wu, Frank Glorius, and co-workers present a modular chemical strategy for displaying proteins on the surface of living cells. As illustrated, cholesterol analogues act as membrane “anchors” that secure enzyme “vessels” to the lipid bilayer. This approach provides a reversible and recyclable system to immobilize purified enzymes for catalysis. Image design by Anne Chen.
