This theoretical model maps worldview development onto a structure, indicating implications for psychology and education.
The Epistemic Octahedron is a surface-based, three-dimensional structural model of philosophical maturity and worldview development. It represents two horizontal tensions, empathy versus practicality and wisdom versus knowledge, under a vertical dimension of epistemic stability. Worldview positions are mapped onto the octahedral surface, while the coordinate origin is reserved as a pre-philosophical null reference. The framework’s central discovery is the structural distinction among pre-philosophical absence, negative epistemic instability, mature integration, and epistemic collapse. Objective philosophical maturity is located at the top vertex, where the horizontal functions are integrated under maximal positive epistemic stability. The paper argues that every formed worldview has a determinate location because every worldview necessarily relates to affected persons, practical constraint, informational grasp, contextual discernment, and epistemic stability. Version 1.0 defines the model’s geometry, formal syntax, axis semantics, epistemic regions, universality claim, and referent-sensitive plotting conditions. It also develops implications for truth-relation, accountability, moral judgment, source-mediated learning, institutional overcontrol, psychology, education, and psychological wisdom research. Psychometric instrumentation and empirical validation are identified as subsequent work.
