This draft presents a bias-disclosure form for epigraphic datasets, aiming to enhance transparency and usability in data management.
A bias-disclosure form for epigraphic datasets of every kind: TEI/EpiDoc corpora, relational databases, plain-text collections, scraped derivatives, and imaging and 3D deposits. The form is modeled on Gebru et al., Datasheets for Datasets (2021), and on the adaptation for cultural heritage by Alkemade et al. (2023), and is restructured for epigraphy: its questions follow the inscribed object's journey (creation, discovery, edition, digitization, reuse) along five cumulative bias layers: survivorship; findspot and topic; editorial habit; digitization and encoding; access and reuse. Version 0.1 is a community draft, announced at DH2026 (Daejeon) in the short paper "Identifying and Managing Layered Bias in Digital Epigraphy". Version 1.0 is reserved for a community revision. Please send comments to gregor.diez@uni-graz.at or florian.wachter@uni-graz.at. The deposit contains the form as Markdown (the master, to be copied and filled in) and as PDF (for reading).
