Experimental and theoretical assessment reveals K-shell parameters of rare-earth elements, indicating improved measurement accuracy.
K‐shell absorption parameters are required for studies of photon–matter interactions near absorption edges. We present a combined experimental and theoretical study to assess the K‐shell parameters of rare‐earth elements (Eu, Gd, Tb, Ho, and Er). Angle‐resolved Compton scattering of a 59.54 keV gamma source produced quasi‐monoenergetic photons with energies of 48.51–57.33 keV, enabling controlled analysis in the K‐edge region. Peak resolution in the measured spectra was enhanced through iterative maximum likelihood expectation maximization (MLEM) deconvolution to correct for detector‐induced distortions. The reconstructed spectra clearly reveal the K‐edges, enabling the calculation of mass attenuation coefficients and derived parameters such as jump ratio, jump factor, and oscillator strength. The results agree well with standard reference data, indicating that this approach is useful for accurate near‐edge measurements.
