With a high-resolution two-crystal vacuum spectrometer, the fluorine Kα emission spectra in fluorescence are measured for AlF 3 , CrF 3 · x H 2 O, FeF 3 · x H 2 O, NiF 2 ·4H 2 O, ZrF 4 , NH 4 NbF 6 and a series of rare-earth trifluorides RF 3 (R=La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu and Gd). The measured emission spectra consist of a prominent peak and its high-energy satellites. It is shown that the presence of the K 1 L 1 satellite peak arising from the 1s -1 2p -1 initial state is unclear in LaF 3 , CeF 3 , PrF 3 and NdF 3 , in contrast to that of other metal fluorides. This unclear presence is attributed to the F 2p shell vacancy rearrangement through interatomic electronic transitions before 1s hole filling for fluorine Kα emission. The emission spectra of LaF 3 and CeF 3 are compared with the XPS spectra of the F - 2p valence bands obtained by Sato. There is a good agreement between them.
