“Nanoreactors” of ligands 1 (n=1, 2) enclose organometallic rhodium, wherein CO and H2 add to terminal olefins for the production of aldehydes. The environmental advantages of water-based industrial processes are now extended to poorly water-soluble alkenes. No loss of activity was noted over a number of catalytic cycles. Ar=m-MOSO2C6H4.
