PhI(OAc)2 is an effective oxidant in the acetoxylation of arenes with Pd(OAc)2 as catalyst. The data are most easily interpreted in terms of palladation being the step that determines both the rate and the omp selectivity, and reductive elimination from a PhPd(IV)(OAc) species being the product forming step.
