A drill core penetrating the major part of the Wenlockian Slite Beds on Gotland encountered a prograding carbonate ramp. The depositional environment was affected by storm processes represented by tempestites. These increase in thickness and complexity upwards through the sequence, culminating with amalgamated beds in the upper part. Both palaeontology and sedimentology reflect a gradual change in the depositional environment from deep outer ramp to inner ramp. The uppermost part of the sequence has been interpreted as a prograding crinoid sand‐shoal complex.
