Simple one dimensional models of anharmonic lattice potentials are used to investigate the effect of anharmonicity on the electron-phonon coupling constant lambda . It is found that if the phonon energy is interpreted as the first excitation energy then anharmonicity will have little influence except to diminish slightly the size of lambda .
