The synthesis of metal and semiconductor nanoparticles is a growing research area due to the potential applications for the progress of novel technologies. Generally, nanoparticles are prepared by a variety of chemical methods which are not environmentally friendly. This article aims to review the biological synthesis of nanomaterials using bio-template like bacteria, fungi, plant extract, etc. The biosynthesis of nanomaterials is an eco-friendly method, rapid and cost effective. The bio-templates assisted nanomaterial synthesis has been described in brief, focusing on procedure as well as the characterization techniques of nanomaterials. The biosynthesis mechanism of nanomaterial has been described in two aspects: microorganism and plant extract mediated synthesis.
