DESCRIPTION This content-rich book addresses essential areas of study in a field that includes muscle physiology, biomechanics, and higher level mathematical models. It is informative and thorough without being cumbersome with wordy explanations, making it a good reference for advanced learning. PURPOSE The aim of this study is to present the most pertinent and current information on biomechanics. The book sets out to provide a good deal of background information on supporting areas of study (i.e., muscle physiology) that biomechanical research relies on. Lastly, it is meant to provide a more advanced understanding of the field of biomechanics appropriate for the advanced scholar. AUDIENCE It is intended for readers with more than basic knowledge of biomechanics and muscle physiology. Although the authors address some of the basic concepts of these areas, they are meant to be a quick review for readers and not a primary learning source. Graduate students and research assistants may find this to be a good reference for practical applications as well as an explanation of theory. FEATURES The authors address basic concepts early on so they can discuss more advanced research topics in the later chapters. Figures and diagrams help reinforce specific learning points without disrupting the flow. The book is thorough and well referenced throughout with current primary literature sources. ASSESSMENT This is an excellent book for readers interested in building upon a basic understanding of biomechanics. The material ranges from basic to advanced, but a good understanding of the field is recommended before reading this book. In addition to the well-credentialed authors’ expertise, important peer-reviewed research is presented throughout the book.
