The heat-stable factor which was responsible for the release of tRNA from ribosomes has been identified as G factor. The release of tRNA specific for phenylalanine from 70 S ribosomes is inhibited by β,γ-methyleneguanosine triphosphate. The G factor-dependent release was not observed when the acceptor site was not occupied with tRNA or peptidyl-tRNA. This is consistent with the hypothesis that the release of tRNA specific for phenylalanine takes place as a consequence of translocation of tRNA because tRNA is pushed out of ribosomes during this process.
