S J Putterman Amsterdam: North Holland 1974 pp xxi + 443 price Dfl 125 ( cased ) Dfl 1.65 ( paperback ) This book is a theorist's highly idiosyncratic view of the macroscopic hydrodynamics of helium II. It contains a mixture of correct but probably irrelevant by-ways in classical hydrodynamics, like a second circulation theorem in the dissipationless approximation, with relevant but highly controversial topics such as the explanation of drag on vortices without reference to their collision properties, and the use of a macroscopic quantum uncertainty principle to discuss third sound attenuation.
