A biodegradable additive is often included in otherwise inert polymers in order to get a degradable material. Low density polyethylene (LDPE) containing starch in a masterbatch (MB) was degraded by photooxidation (UV). LDPE samples containing MB were more degraded than LDPE samples containing only starch. The MB contains a transition metal and an antioxidant thereby improving the total environmental degradation.
