In May 1998 the Government launched the National Childcare Strategy. The strategy is presented by the Government as being about supporting families and recognising that families need good quality childcare. The strategy also recognises that affordable childcare is important if parents are to be encouraged to return to work or to study. All of this will help with regeneration and prevention of social exclusion, which are always high on local and political agendas.
