The inverse Compton X-ray and gamma-ray flux resulting from the interaction of high-energy electrons with an assumed cosmic black-body radiation at 3.5" K is calculated. The energy-dependent electron flux used is that observed in the vicinity of the Earth. The theoretical results are compared with the appropriate experimental measurements. The X-ray flux cannot be explained locally by this effect as the gamma-ray flux would be excessive. It is also shown that the electron distribution used will not continue to be homogeneous and isotropic in space to distances much greater than the radius of the Galaxy if the black-body radiation is universal.
