Summary. Decanoic acid‐l‐ 14 C was fed to rats and the radioactivity of different lipid fractions of the portal vein blood and the inferior vena cava blood were studied in two experiments. The concentration of lipid‐ 14 C was found to be 4.0 and 2.3 as high in the portal blood as in the inferior vena cava blood. The largest part of the 14 C‐activity in the portal blood as well as in the inferior cava blood was found in the form of free decanoic acid; the figures for portal blood being 63.5 and 73.7 per cent of the total activity as the free acid. The concentration of free 14 C‐decanoic acid in the portal blood during absorption was calculated to be 4–5 mg per cent.
