The dependence of a honeycomb domain structure on the crystal thickness ( T ) is measured for magnetoplumbite, for values of T for which the influence of the surface structure is significant. The same relation is found as for a plate structure, i.e., that the domain width is proportional to T ⅔ . This relation is in agreement with Kaczér's theory. The formation of the surface domain structure of uniaxial ferromagnets with high anisotropy is due to two mechanisms: the undulation of the walls, and the formation of spike domains of reverse magnetization. It is shown, by the use of examples, that these mechanisms participate in different ways according to the conditions under which the domain structure is formed.
